While Europe is growing together steadily, the daily life of its citizens becomes even more complex due to intensified globalization processes. Living and working together with people from different cultural backgrounds in a developing European community is challenging and increases the need to improve individual social and intercultural skills.
Within the frame of the international youth exchange we want to offer the possibility to commonly reflect the social changes in various ways and consider how perceived obstacles and chances could be met. The participants shall be integrated from the outset on in the conception of the exchange, comprising the prearrangement, organization and accomplishment of the youth exchange. After all, living two weeks closely together will provide the chance of a direct exchange of different moral concepts, values and political backgrounds. At the same time, the participants should get the opportunity to extend both their communicative competence and social abilities. An open-minded acquaintance with foreign and unfamiliar concepts always requires a reflection of one's own attitudes, minding and behavioural patterns. Indeed, one's own identity is visible and tangible only by getting in touch with „the other“. An important goal of the youth exchange lies thus in enabling the participants to be positively aware of the different identities and cultures, to bring down the barriers of prejudice, to bear uncertainties and to become curious and interested in other realities. |
